On a busy Saturday in July, Chuck and his parents came into the store with a ring box. Chuck explained to me that he was excited about creating a unique and special engagement ring. He wanted the ring to include his grandfather’s diamond as the center and 2 additional diamonds on the sides to represent himself and Izzy (Eden's daughter). A very sentimental meaning for a very special occasion. Helping Chuck create the ring he envisioned and make Eden's day extra meaningful is why I love working at Van Scoy Jewelers. Here is his proposal story.
Eden and I met where I work. I was interviewing her and was instantly attracted to her. We started dating in July 2021. Thirteen months later, I planned a camping weekend at the beach for Eden’s birthday with her 9-year-old daughter Izzy.
Eden spent summer vacations at Assateague Island in her childhood and has very fond memories there. She loves horses and the beach, so these memories mean a lot to her. She had shared this with me a couple of times, and I knew, that when the time came to propose, it would be here.
After setting up camp, the three of us spent the day at the beach enjoying the waves and the sun. I found the perfect spot to propose with trees, wild horses, and sunset. I told the girls we were going back to the campsite to change and return for pictures. (I told her 9-year-old daughter, Izzy that this was where I would propose)
I told Izzy that I would first take a picture of her and her mother with the horses and the sunset in the background, and then I would ask her to take a picture of Eden and me. I told Izzy that I would distract Eden by pointing away to a horse or something off in the distance and when Eden looked away, I told Izzy to switch the camera setting to video. This went off without a hitch – she did such a good job! While Eden was distracted and looking away, I reached into my pocket to take out the ring, opened the box, and got down to one knee. She said yes!
The most special part about the proposal was including her daughter. Izzy felt proud and special to be included and was instrumental in my proposal plan. What she did not know was that I also had a ring for her hidden in my pocket. After she recorded the proposal video, I asked Eden to take a picture of Izzy and me. It was then that I got down to one knee, again, and told Izzy how important she is to me and that I am not just marrying her mother, but marrying into the family, and then I presented her with a ring of her own – one that was similar in design to her mother’s. She also said yes! :)
I had the most pleasant experience with everyone at Van Scoy Jewelers. Judy, especially, was beyond helpful and instrumental in helping me pick out the perfect ring. Because I already had the center diamond, Judy searched and found the perfect ring to set the diamond in. She also assured me that they would have the ring in time for my preplanned proposal at Assateague Island less than two weeks from the time we ordered the ring. She made sure that the ring came in on time. The jeweler even came in on his day off (his birthday no less) to set the diamond in time for me to pick it up the day before we left for the trip! Judy, the jeweler, and everybody at Van Scoy Jewelers has been so extremely helpful and I am so grateful for their kindness and assistance in picking out the perfect ring for Eden!
