About Us

Founded by Lew M. Hill on November 11th, 1978, Van Scoy employs 11 highly trained sales associates and jewelers with over 90 years combined experience with the company. We have two jewelers in our service department responsible for the manufacture and repair of jewelry. Owner Lew Hill is a Graduate Gemologist with 29 years of diamond buying experience. Along with Lew, we have two other Graduate Gemologists on staff.

Both Lew and his wife, Caroline, are alumni members of the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). Lew is a member of the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA), Jewelers of America (JA), Pennsylvania Jewelers Association (PJA), and Amercan Gem Society (AGS). Lew also became one of the first people in the US to become a Jewelers of America Accredited Jeweler. In addition, Caroline is a graduate of Penn State University, a Diamond Graduate of the GIA and an Accredited Jewelry store manager.

Van Scoy and its staff members are also very involved in the community. Lew is a past board member of the Berks County Chamber of Commerce, the store is a current member of the Chamber of Commerce. He is involved in the West Reading -Wyomissing Rotary Club serving in many capacities, including several rotary district committees. He has also been a guest speaker for the Learning for Life Program for the Hawk Mountain Council. In addition, Lew is an avid pilot.

Both Lew and Caroline were involved with the Lazy H Therapeutic Riding Academy where Lew also served as a board member and Caroline as a volunteer. Lazy H therapeutic Riding Academy had a therapeutic horseback riding program. Caroline continues to remain active with the St. Joseph’s Hospital Charity Ball. Caroline is also a past board member of the Reading Symphony Orchestra and has served on committees with the Reading Public Museum, RACC and St. Joseph Medical Center.
